Carrie Gerlach Cecil

Communications Crusader, CEO

Premiere business strategist, crisis communications and digital expert, Carrie Gerlach Cecil is the CEO of Social Media Sports Management (SM2) and Anachel Communications, Inc. The companies specialize in brand reputation management, strategic communications and digital solutions.

Under Ms. Cecil’s guidance the company has pioneered revolutionary problem solving services to mitigate risk and increase brand wealth for their clients. A well known speaker and author, Cecil is one of the preeminent leaders in digital and traditional crisis communications management, litigation communications, digital brand terrorism, social media education and risk mitigation. She manages an internal and external team of global communications, security, social media, technology, legal, marketing, public relations, sports, and security executives.

Cecil is an experienced speechwriter and corporate image coach who confidentially directs her clients on how to preemptively and positively maneuver sensitive issues that impact their businesses. She has authored books for Simon & Schuster and Harper Collins as well as contributed to television shows for ABC and Lifetime Television, and has penned numerous print and online news stories.

Ms. Cecil is also the founder of Anachel Inc., a corporate, sports and entertainment powerhouse with integrated and comprehensive services and solutions under one moniker. Over the past two decades, she has counseled countless c-suite executives and decision-makers from entities and corporations such as SONY, NASCAR, Charter Communications, ESPN, NCAA, NFL, FOX Sports Net, Universal Television, The Tennis Channel, The Pac-12 & Big 12 Conferences, AVP ProVolleyball, Charter Communications, Columbia Tri-Star, Sony Pictures, Sony Corporate America, MGM Television and Domestic Films.

Prior to forming Anachel, Ms. Cecil handled public relations as well as community affairs for global entertainment companies. She traveled the world working side-by side leading producers, directors and actors on productions for Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures and Miramax. She was director of entertainment publicity, West Coast for Turner Network Television (TNT), based in Los Angeles. She inaugurated her tenure with Turner Entertainment Group in New York as manager of East Coast public relations and was part of the team that launched Turner Classic Movies. She began her career in public relations in the television department of Rogers & Cowan Public Relations, Inc., and with the Honorable Senator John McCain.

Ms. Cecil and her husband, NCAA College Football Hall of Fame player,  former NFL Pro Bowl Safety, and Defensive Coach, Chuck Cecil, believe that God has blessed their lives in many ways and are dedicated to giving back both financially and with their time.  The college sweethearts are avid philanthropists working with several charities that are close to their heart. The duo split their time between California and Arizona and have a 13-year-old daughter, Charli Alleene.

Janet Bess

Director of Finance

A premier business management executive with over 30-years of finance experience, Ms. Bess directs all corporate business management endeavors including accounting and billing for Social Media Sports Management SM2. SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

Ms. Bess brings her vast knowledge and background working with high profile client’s including Grammy-winning Artists and Hollywood’s best-known actors, writers and directors to her role as director of finance at SM2. At SM2, she services some of today’s most well prestigious athletic brands as well as meeting the needs of SM2’s rapid market growth.

When not in the office, the UCLA graduate is actively involved in various non-profit organizations, including church supported ministries such as Cathedral Cares, servicing homeless individuals in the Charleston area; Youth Empowerment Services, mentoring teen girls; and serving as the annual Conference Coordinator for the Dream Girls Conference for at risk middle and high schools girls.

Ms. Bess and her husband Kenneth have a college freshman daughter, Shannon.

Jack R. “Rob” Dodson III

Business Affairs, Legal Advisor

Jack R. “Rob” Dodson III oversees corporate and business legal affairs for Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

Mr. Dodson brings decades of legal, litigation and liability know-how and support to the team at SM2. From contract negotiations to intellectual property laws, entertainment, technology and privacy matters, Mr. Dodson has practiced law since 1996. Serving as Special Counsel in the Adams and Reese Nashville office, Mr. Dodson regularly handles matters throughout the country for his clients.

In addition to his primary practice areas, Rob also has significant experience in general commercial litigation, insurance and products liability litigation.

Jake Feingold

Sports Business Development

Jake Feingold is a business development and success partner for SM2’s collegiate sports and MLB and MiLB clients. In his role he helps athletic stakeholders, athletes, coaches and staff minimize risk and empower their teams through relevant social media training and education. He works to establish partnership opportunities for SM2 including researching strategic integration, implementing tactical marketing strategies and mining new market opportunities for the business development team.

A former two-sport collegiate athlete in Austin, Texas, Jake transferred to the University of Arizona to complete his Bachelor of Science in Business as an honor student with triple major in Entrepreneurship, Management Information Systems, and Operations Management.

Meghan Hanson

Legal Non-Profit Social Media Advisor

Meghan Hanson is an Associate General Counsel at TechSoup Global. Meghan joined TechSoup Global in 2013, and provides comprehensive advice to the business groups across the organization about legal, compliance and business issues related to the organization’s domestic and international transactions. Previously, she was Assistant General Counsel at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she served as part of a legal team of 12 attorneys who provided advice to support the foundation’s $3.4 billion annual grantmaking budget, as well as operations. Earlier in her career, she worked at the Juvenile Courthouse (San Diego) and has always had a passion for helping those underprivileged, especially children. Meghan holds a Masters of Law in Taxation from the University of Washington and graduated from Cornell University.

Margie Johnson

Strategic Marketing Specialist

Margie Johnson brings a wealth of management experience to her role as an SM2 strategic marketing specialist. SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

As an executive, she has built and managed professional services including Interactive Strategy, Technology and Project Management. Having worked over the years with clients such as Sony Pictures, NBC/Universal, Sony VAIO, Nestle, Activision, and Motorola, she understands that analysis and insights are only useful if they lead to concrete, actionable recommendations for improvement. With her wealth of cross-disciplinary knowledge and project management experience, she knows what it takes to turn those recommendations into reality.

Throughout her career, she has managed numerous large-scale brand initiatives with technology and data at the core of those programs. She mixes integrated digital marketing, technology and real-time insight mixed with a physical event to inspire action and energy and results. Ms. Johnson is also a managing partner at Mee3 Agency.

Bob Lattinville

Professional Football and Collegiate Athletic Advisor

Bob Lattinville brings decades of professional football and collegiate athletic experience and legal knowledge to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, tactics, empowerment and teams.

In his role as a SM2 professional football and collegiate athletic advisor, Mr. Lattinville will counsel the SM2 senior teams relative to business issues and partnerships with professional football clubs, associations, the National Football League and collegiate athletic entities.

As an attorney and agent with Relativity Sports, Mr. Lattinville has exceptional sports and legal experience. He has represented professional, amateur and Olympic athletes in the United States, Canada and Europe, as well as coaches and universities in contract and NCAA matters. He has served as counsel to several sports entities, including the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company.

A highly sought after sports industry speaker, lecturer and frequently quoted authority on sports law, Mr. Lattinville has authored several publications and has taught sports law courses at Washington University, the University of Missouri-Columbia and St. Louis University Schools of Law.

Prior to joining Relativity Sports, Mr. Lattinville was an agent with CAA Sports representing professional football players, college and professional coaches and college athletics directors.

received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri, his Masters of Business Administration from St. Louis University and his Juris Doctor from Indiana University – Bloomington.

Steve Lewis

With over 26-years in law enforcement and both digital and physical disaster preparation, Mr. Lewis brings his experience in cyber and risk prevention to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). Mr. Lewis has designed, taught and implemented courses on Internet, cyber and physical crisis prevention and management for Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 corporations as well as companies in both the private and public sector. Mr. Lewis assists SM2’s social media clients on how to prepare and overcome homeland and online cyber threats.

Jim Livengood

Collegiate Business Development Advisor

As one of the nation’s top collegiate administrators, Jim Livengood brings extensive experience and integrity to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, tactics, empowerment and teams.

In his role as a SM2 collegiate business development advisor, the former Athletic Director at UNLV, Arizona, Washington State University and Southern Illinois, counsels the SM2 senior team on collegiate hot-topics as well as strategic collegiate business partnership opportunities.

Mr. Livengood is also a partner with the Xs & Os of Success, an athletic consulting firm focusing on leadership, organization and personal development, and is a member of the NCAA Fellows Program to mentor new athletic directors. He has served as a member of the NCAA Peer Review Team from 1994-99, the NCAA Gender Equity Task Force, and the Women’s Committee on Athletics.

Mr. Livengood has been a member of the NACDA Preseason Football Games Committee since 2000 and was a member of the NACDA Strategic Planning Committee from 1999-2001. He served as NACDA president in 1998-1999, and in 1999 was named Division I-A Athletic Director of the Year. He is also a member of the Division 1-A Athletic Directors Association, having served as president of that association in 1998.

Born March 28, 1945, in Walla Walla, Wash., he received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in 1968 and completed his fifth-year education requirement for teaching certification at Central Washington University in 1972. He taught and served as an assistant football coach and track coach at Moses Lake High School in Washington in 1968-69, and as head football and basketball coach and counselor at Ephrata High School in Washington from 1972-80 before moving into athletics administration.

Mr. Livengood and his wife, Linda have one daughter, Michelle who is an attorney and married to Jack Murphy, the Head Basketball Coach at NAU. They also have one son, Jeremy is the vice president Torrent Resources, and is married to Megan who is heavily involved in non-profit. They reside in Phoenix, Arizona. The proud grandparents have two grand daughters and two grandsons.

Karen North

Social Media & Digital Educational Advisor

Karen North, Ph.D. is a nationally recognized expert in digital social media and in psychology. She is the Director of USC’s Annenberg Program on Online Communities (APOC) which offers an MS in Digital Social Media and she is a Clinical Professor in the School of Communication. APOC is the world’s first master’s degree program and research center focused on the leadership and management of digital and social media and online communities. Trained as a clinical and social psychologist and with considerable work experience in telecommunications policy and practice, Dr. North’s interests come together in the digital world where entrepreneurs and large companies seem most focused on using social and digital media to bring people together and form groups online. Dr. North teaches these skills, strategies, and theories, and she works with small and large companies in this sector. Prior to building USC’s Digital Social Media program, Dr. North was the Assistant Dean of the UCLA School of Public Policy. She previously worked in the Clinton Administration in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and before that she worked for Rep. Edward Markey (now Senator from MA), Chairman of the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Finance. Dr. North is frequently interviewed by local, national, and international journalists, including CNN, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, ABC, CBS, she is a go-to source on social media and psychology for major newspapers and magazines, and she is a frequent guest on NPR and other radio shows. Most importantly, Dr. North loves to help people understand how individuals, groups, and technologies interact and how the human condition plays out in our technology mediated communication age.

Michael S. Overing

Social Media Attorney & Litigator

With decades of first amendment and social media best-practices, Michael Overing brings specialized legal expertise to Social Media Sports Management (SM2) and their sports clients. He is an attorney and faculty member at USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism where he teaches courses in intellectual property, media law, entertainment and first amendment rights. SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

Michael joined SM2 in 2017 providing specialized depth in digital media best-practices for professional and collegiate sports programs, athletes and executives. He develops overall policies to meet the unique goals of SM2’s clients while respecting their constituent’s rights. From digital brand terrorism to cyberbullying, he works to minimize risk and protect SM2 and their partners. He has been a featured columnist for the Online Journalism Review and is a go-to interview choice for major media outlets on issues affecting rights and practices in online social media.

Michael is a member of the California bar and the American Bar Association. He received his J.D. from Loyola Law School (Los Angeles) in 1989, his M.A. degree from the University of Southern California in 1986, and his B.A. degree from the University of Nebraska in 1984. Michael makes Pasadena his home with his wife Theresa, and their sons, Robert, John and Andrew.

Dan Posey

Head of Motion Design

With over a decade of production and motion design expertise, Dan Posey is the head of design for Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

In his current role, Mr. Posey spearheads post-production for SM2 where he has overseen over 75-professional sports and collegiate athletic customized videos. He also oversees design for SM2 advertising and marketing as well as managing a team of internal and external motion graphic specialists.

Prior to joining SM2, Mr. Posey was senior animator and videographer at Captiva Marketing where produced creative marketing and advertising video campaigns for a litany of name brand clients. With background in all facets of production and post-production, Dan has been specializing in motion design since 2001.

Mr. Posey’s work has aired on approximately 300 stations nationally, including ABC, WGN, Fox Family, BET, TBN and many more, winning two Telly Awards in 2005 for his editor work on How to Handle Temptation and Forgiving Charles Manuel.

Ramsey Poston

Litigation & Crisis Communications

Ramsey Poston is the strategic counsel, crisis management, and litigation communications partner to SM2 CEO, Carrie Cecil. Mr. Poston and Ms. Cecil have worked together for over a decade and share a culture of respect and collaboration to deliver maximum results for their clients. Mr. Poston is also president of the communications firm, Tuckahoe Strategies.

Mr. Poston develops comprehensive strategies to ensure that every client’s image remains intact and that their client’s position gets a full and public hearing. His varied and comprehensive media contacts allow him to present a strong case for his clients and his media savvy and connections help him to promote a positive position.

Since launching Tuckahoe Strategies, Mr. Poston’s clients have included businesses and executives from a broad spectrum of industries including sports, energy, entertainment, consumer and healthcare.

In 2001, Mr. Poston worked with NASCAR to manage the crisis around the death of Dale Earnhardt, who was killed on the final lap of the Daytona 500 that year. Three years later, Mr. Poston took over NASCAR’s Communications Department, leading a team of 30 public relations professionals covering all aspects of the sport’s communications, which included working closely with the legal team.

Mr. Poston served as NASCAR chief communications strategist and spokesperson for all litigation and crisis situations. During his tenure at NASCAR, Mr. Poston successfully led the litigation communications efforts in a number of high profile cases. He has been the on-record spokesperson for NASCAR’s most sensitive issues often conducting full press conferences with broadcast and print media in concert with legal strategy. As NASCAR’s spokesman, Mr. Poston has conducted close to 1,500 interviews.

Mr. Poston developed close working relationships with some of America’s top law firms to communicate NASCAR’s defense in concert with the legal strategy. Some the recent cases include, AT&T Mobility v. NASCAR (contract dispute); Maricia Grant v. NASCAR (racial and sexual harassment); Jeremy Mayfield v. NASCAR (substance abuse policy extending to claims of negligence, breach of contract, and defamation); and, Kentucky Speedway v. NASCAR ($1.2 billion Anti-Trust lawsuit).

Steve Sullivan

Professional Hockey Advisor

As one of professional hockey’s most respected statesmen, Steve Sullivan brings almost 20-years of professional hockey sportsmanship and expertise to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, tactics, empowerment and teams.

In his role as a SM2 professional hockey advisor, Mr. Sullivan will counsel SM2 senior teams relative to hot-topics and business development partnership with the NHL, NHL clubs and the NFLPA. With over 1,000 career NHL games on the ice, the former defenseman currently serves as the Phoenix Coyotes development coach.

In his second season with the Coyotes, Mr. Sullivan oversees all pro player development including working with coaches and players in the Coyotes’ minor league system.

The 40-year-old Sullivan joined the organization after a 16-year NHL career that included stints with the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, Nashville Predators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Coyotes.

The Timmins, Ontario native totaled 290-457-747 in 1,011 career NHL games. He also recorded 9-14-23 in 50 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. Sullivan collected 5-7-12 in 33 contests with the Coyotes in 2012-13, and appeared in his 1,000th career NHL game on March 28, 2013 against Nashville.

In 2009, Sullivan was the recipient of the Bill Masterton Trophy, which is awarded each year to the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Sullivan became the first player in Predators history to win an NHL award.

Steve and his wife, Kristen, have four children, Aidyn, Garner, Drake and Karlisle.

Mark Sweeney

Professional Baseball Business Development Advisor

Mark Sweeney brings over two decades of professional baseball experience to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

As a professional baseball business development and advisor for SM2, the former Major League Baseball first baseman and outfielder and current San Diego Padres analyst for FOX advises the senior teams at SM2 on relative MLB initiatives and hot-topics as well as business development partnership opportunities.

The MLB Fox Sports and FOX analyst also served as the special assistant to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ General Manager, Ned Colletti.

Born in Framingham, Massachusetts, Mr. Sweeney was drafted by the California Angels, now the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, in the 9th round of the 1991 Major League Baseball Draft. In 1995, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals and made his major league debut on August 4, 1995 as the Cardinals’ starting first baseman. Sweeney played for seven National League teams over a 14-year career in the majors including the San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He and his wife Cindy, have two daughters Jaden and Kendall, and son Gavin.

Will Witherspoon

Professional Football, Business Development Advisor and on-Camera Educator

Will Witherspoon brings over two decades of professional football experience to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, empowerment and teams.

As a professional football business development executive, advisor and on-camera educator for SM2, the former NFL linebacker informs the senior teams at SM2 on relative NFL and NFLPA initiatives and hot-topics. Additionally, he identifies business development partnership opportunities and serves as an on-camera educator for the on-demand customized NFL and Collegiate eCourseware.

Currently a sideline analyst with the St. Louis Rams Radio, Mr. Witherspoon was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He has also played for the St. Louis Rams, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he is passionate about producing healthy and nutritious food and owns the sustainable Shire Gate Farm near Owensville, Mo. Mr. Witherspoon is blessed with three daughters.

Mike Zizzo

Motorsports Advisor

With two decades of motorsports experience, Mike Zizzo brings integrity, wisdom and racing knowledge to Social Media Sports Management (SM2). SM2 protects and maximizes valuable sports brands through digital, social media and real-time communications strategies, coaching, education, tactics, empowerment and teams.

In Mr. Zizzo’s role as a SM2 motorsports strategic business advisor, the vice president of media relations for Texas Motor Speedway counsels the SM2 senior teams on the relevant topics surrounding motorsports including its tracks, teams, and drivers for NASCAR, INDYCAR, and other motorsports-affiliated entities.

In his 10th year with Texas Motor Speedway, Mr. Zizzo has overseen the creation of the Broadcast Media Center, Pit Stop Park, Tony Stewart “Smoke Show,” 10 Years Strong commemorative book, Wall of Champions, Speeding To Help community outreach program, and Speeding To Read education initiative, among other projects. For 2014, Speeding To Read was awarded the “Best Youth Marketing Initiative” by the NASCAR industry.
